FASHION WEEK 2009

By couture amour · February 18, 2009 · 0 Comments · 24 Views

Matthew Williamson and Lindsay Lohan

"His clothes are very free-spirited," said Lindsay Lohan, with British designer Matthew Williamson at the opening off his first U.S. boutique. "Each piece really stands out and that's so important." Heidi Klum, Mischa Barton and Rachel Zoe also checked out the psychedelic store, which features an indoor garden and a blacked-out "disco" room.
January Jones and Jessica Stroup
"This is my first show of my first New York Fashion Week!" said an excited Jessica Stroup, who showed off her flawless figure in a boldly-hued Herve Leger bandage dress at the Fall 2009 runway show. "If you'd told me a year ago that I'd be here, I would have called you crazy." After greeting Leger designer Max Azria backstage, the 90210 star joined Mad Men's January Jones in the front row.

Shenae Grimes
Though she may play a quintessential California chick on the show, 90210's Shenae Grimes, here at the Erin Fetherston show, says she prefers the east coast when it comes to her personal style. "Out here, it's all about layering," declared the pint-sized star, dressed in a vintage dress and blazer. "Actually... it's so nice to see so many people walking down the street in New York who have style! Here, with the changes in weather, you get to play around with fashion and have a little more variety."

1. Fake flawless skin. "Always start with a lotion that has SPF, and let it absorb for a few minutes," says Max Factor makeup artist Jake Bailey. "Begin with the smallest amount of foundation," notes Aaron De Mey, Lancôme artistic director for makeup. Apply it with your fingers to create a light finish. To hide blemishes and dark circles, "use a brush to blend concealer into the base," he says. Set the look with translucent face powder, not one with color, "which can look blotchy," warns Bailey. "Finally, spritz water on your face to take off the powdery edge," says De Mey.

Try: Clinique Youth Surge SPF 15 ($48.50), Dior DiorSkin Nude Fresh Glow Hydrating Makeup ($42), Benefit Erase Paste ($26), and

Bare Escentuals bareMinerals Mineral Veil

2. Get fuller lips. For the ultimate pout, "exfoliate your lips with a toothbrush to create a smooth canvas," says De Mey. Pick a liner close to the lip color that you will wear and draw it on the lighter edge of the lip line. "Fill in your lip so when the color fades, it won't leave an outlined effect," instructs Bailey. Top it with a glossy lip color. "Shiny textures create an illusion of fullness," notes De Mey, who also advises brushing a thin line of iridescent powder on your cupid's bow. "Soften the edge with a Q-tip and then apply sheer gloss in the center of your lips."

Try: Lancôme La Laque Fever Lipshine in Electric Pink ($28)

La Laque Fever

and Elizabeth Arden Crystal Clear Lip Gloss ($14)

3. Brighten your eyes. "Apply a light-reflecting concealer on the side of your nose, by the inner eye, to cover up darkness," says De Mey. Bailey adds, "Using a silver liner not only disguises redness but metallic pigment also illuminates the area." If silver liner isn't your look, apply a sheer, shimmery shadow at your inner corner, center lid, and brow bone. "And always curl your lashes and finish with a black mascara, focusing on the middle of your top and bottom lashes, so your eyes appear larger," instructs De Mey.

Try: Stila Illuminating Concealer ($22),

($6.25), and

Shiseido The Makeup Advanced Volume Mascara

($22)

4. Give your face a lift. "Sharon Stone taught me to extend brows outward, not downward," reveals Bailey. "And using a contour powder under the jawline tightens up the look of your neck." De Mey also suggests contouring your cheekbones. "Start with a matte shade of powder four or five times deeper than your skin tone," he instructs. "Blend it well under your cheekbone but not too deep in the hollow of your cheek." Follow with a light-pink blush high up on your apple, and dust highlighter on your cheekbones, nose, and brow bone to lift the shadow.

Try: Kevyn Aucoin the Sculpting Powder ($42), CoverGirl TruCheeks Blush in 1 ($7.82), and the

Brush on Radiance

($21)

5. Create perfect brows. "The correct brow shape can give you a youthful, fresh appearance," says Anastasia Soare, owner of Anastasia of Beverly Hills. "Before you tweeze, take a dark pencil to draw your desired shape with the help of a stencil. Apply highlighter on hairs you want to remove to focus on where you need to tweeze," she says. The trick to creating natural-looking brows is to blend your brow powder or pencil really well. "Brush brows with a spoolie brush after filling in sparse areas," she says. "Then set with a brow gel."

Try:

Anastasia Brow Stix

($20), Laura Mercier Eye Brow Groomer ($10), and Estée Lauder Brow Gel ($16)

I'm a Barbie Girl In A Barbie World

By couture amour · February 17, 2009 · 0 Comments · 48 Views

Barbie turned 50 this year, and she’s never looked better. While we wouldn’t advise a lifetime of walking on the balls of your feet or aspiring to a chest/waist/hips ratio that’s anatomically impossible, the lady does have some genius hair, skin and makeup ideas worth trying. Here, a few insider beauty tips on how to score the bombshell’s sultry hair, skin and eyes.-From Glamour

Barbie Beauty Lesson #1: Big hair
At Gucci’s spring show, models hit the runway in va-va-voom waves—aka Barbie’s signature ‘do. To create the “luscious and seductive” look, hair pro Luigi Murenu gave models a side part, then prepped hair with mousse to add volume. Next, he used a wide-barrel curling iron to curl the ends, keeping the crown of the hair straight to get a smooth ’70s look. To tame flyaways, he spritzed Kérastase Nacre Nutri-Sculpt, a shine protectant, on the crown before brushing ends under with Kérastase Lait Nutri-Sculpt and finishing with a light hairspray.

Barbie Beauty Lesson #2: Flawless complexion
The Mattel family must have good genes: In all her 50 years, Barbie has never had a wrinkle or a blemish—even her teen sis, Skipper, is zit-free! To get a doll-like complexion sans plastic, try taking cues from Pat McGrath, who gave the models at Versace’s spring show super-smooth skin. McGrath started with Max Factor ColorGenius Mineral Foundation and Max Factor Erase Concealer to get a natural, even tone, then brushed on Max Factor.
Barbie Beauty Lesson #3: Super-sleek ponytail
What better way to show off Malibu Barbie-style earrings—or a hot pink cell phone—than with a super-sleek ponytail? To create the long, pin-straight ‘dos at Versace, Redken’s in-house hair guru, Guido, blow-dried models’ hair, created a strong middle part, then used a brush to gather hair into a tight, low ponytail. Working on one two- to three-inch section at a time, he misted hair with Redken’s Iron Silk 07 Ultra Straightening Spray before flat-ironing straight. To finish, he spritzed Redken’s Vinyl Glam 02 Mega Shine Spray over the entire head, followed by Quick Dry 18 Instant Finishing spray to set the look instantly. Not even a ride in Barbie’s convertible could screw up this ‘do.
Barbie Beauty Lesson #4: Spotless legs
At Emanuel Ungaro’s spring show, models showed off gold stilettos, floral miniskirts and other Barbie-worthy styles. To fake flawless skin from the kneecaps down through the toes, MAC makeup pros dabbed on face concealer on dark spots, then mixed liquid foundation with a light-weight body moisturizer to get a smooth, silky finish.

Barbie Beauty Lesson #5: Bright eyes, pale lips
For Gucci’s spring show, makeup guru Pat McGrath gave models a look inspired by Verushka—the ’60s model who, like the Barbies of the era, sported big lashes, nude lips and a mass of bright blond hair. McGrath started by lining eyes with a soft gray hue, then blended the creamy Makeup Forever Flash Color Pot in Turquoise over it before layering with CoverGirl Eye Enhancer 1-Kit Shadow in Turquoise Tempest. For a dramatic finish, she dusted on the pale green shadow from Max Factor Vivid Impact Eye Shadow Duo in Moody Mint across the brow bones up to the brows. Black eyeliner and Max Factor 2000 Calorie Extreme Lash Plumper on the top and bottom lashes completed the doe-eyed look, while a nude mouth—created by dabbing on a bit of concealer then slicking on CoverGirl Wetslicks Amazemint Lipgloss in No Care Bare—made the eyes seem extra big.

Barbie Beauty Lesson #6: The perfect pink lipstick
Barbie’s perma-smile still looks fresh, thanks to the perfect shade of pink lipstick—and her plump, Angelina-like pout. Try lining the lips with CoverGirl’s Outlast Lipstain in Everbloom Kiss and then slick on CoverGirl AmazeMint Lipgloss in Slap Happy over it, suggests CoverGirl’s celebrity makeup artist Molly R. Stern. “The gloss adds a peachy finish, and combined with the pinky undertone, it makes for a perfect modern take on the bubble-gum lip look of the past.”

Barbie Beauty Lesson #7: Pastel eyeshadow
Pulling off Barbie’s teal, purple and plum eye-makeup style—without looking like a ’70s newscaster—can be as tricky as trying to keep track of her many plastic heels. The trick is to choose the right color for your eyes: “Play around with some fun pastel shades like lavender if you have brown eyes, and try a pink shimmer if you have green or blue eyes,” suggests Sarah Lucero, Stila’s celebrity makeup pro. And she warns that when dusting on the color, go easy: “The most important thing to remember when doing Barbie-style eyes is to keep it fun and fresh with a sheer pop of color.”

In a Nutshell~Or Mattel Box: The shortcut to Barbie beauty:
Still not sure how to use what when? The kind folks at Stila have put together a Barbie Loves Stila Paint Cans, makeup kits complete with peachy blush, bright eyeshadows and easy-to-follow application instructions. Sadly, hunky Ken look-alikes are sold separately.
